Case : hoof fistula
Symptoms and treatment:
The owner was waiting the mobile clinic, to inform SPANA that his donkey was limping and cannot walk. SPANA team went with the owner to the place of the donkey. By the examination, it was noticed that the hoof was infected with fistula. Immediately, the hoof was cleaned. The fistula was opened. The cause was the small stones which entered to inside of the hoof, during the walking, and formed abscess in it. After the removing of the stones from the hoof, it was cleaned with the solution of the tincture of iodine, and was put the sulfate powder. Then, the hoof was dressed with the medical gauze, cotton and plaster. The donkey was given dose of antitetanus, and 3 doses of antibiotics for three days. The dress was changing every two days. After two weeks, the donkey was walking normally without limping, which means that the hoof was healed. So, the dress was removed. The owner had been advised to clean the hooves of his animals daily, and after the returning back from the field. Otherwise, the small stones will entered deeply inside the hooves and caused dangerous infections. |
