Donkey with burns / by Assistant Safwan Al Hulue
In one of SPANA rounds to villages of Hama, to the village ( al Zarah ) about 20 k. from Hama.
The owner ,Abou Ali aged 55 , owned this donkey called Shehab meaning (meteor ) in English , and used him in harvesting his crops of olives, barely, wheat and some vegetables on his land which was about 12000 sq. meters . he was also used in transporting the family and their produce. His annual income is about £ 1.500 with which he has to support 8 children.
People in that areas were accustomed to burn the lands after the harvesting. and the owner burned his land and went to his house, he forgot his donkey in the field . when he returned back to take back his donkey he found the fire burned him. he immediately extinguished the fire and rescued him , but his body suffered from burns . so he call SPANA for the help.
When SPANA arrived the donkey was furious , didn't eat , the pus and blood flew out from his burned body, it was clear that he suffered sever pains.
Safwan treated this donkey for 2 weeks by giving him painkiller, dose of vitamin, 2 litres of dextrose & sodium chloride to compensate the loss liquids . the burns were cleaned with the medical gauze , oil of fish to rebuild the tissues , in addition to , it was put a mix of (sulphate powder+ zinc oxid ointment + antibiotic pen strep) until the complete recovery. The owner was advised to put his donkey in clean place and to give him clean water and good food .the treatment continue for 3 weeks .
